GOVERNOR’S OFFICE ANNOUNCES ENERGY EFFICIENCY PROJECTS

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Gov. Joe Manchin today announced funding totaling $933,090.75 for energy efficiency projects in the Region 7 Planning and Development Council, which covers Barbour, Braxton, Gilmer, Lewis, Randolph, Tucker and Upshur counties. The projects will be funded through the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant supported by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
“Reducing energy use in city and county government facilities means energy cost savings,” Gov. Manchin said. “When we conserve energy it is a win-win, for our environment and for our taxpayers because the cost of our government is reduced.”
- Barbour County Commission:
Amount: $166,500
Project description: The Barbour County Commission will replace the heating system in the Barbour County Courthouse with eight energy-efficient HVAC units.
Amount: $170,976.25
Project description: This project will replace one of the current HVAC rooftop units with a geothermal ground source heat pump system using a vertical well system. It will condition portions of the City Hall and data center.
Amount: $71,250
Project description: This project will replace one of two gas-fired boilers at City Hall. The new system will be more efficient and have an adjustable radiator vent system.
Amount: $23,770.50
Project description: This EECBG grant will be used for the installation of a new HVAC system in the Town Hall.
Amount: $30,400
Project description: The Lewis County Commission will utilize EECBG funds to add R-49 insulation to the attic area of the Lewis County Courthouse.
Amount: $168,169
Project description: The City of Parsons will utilize EECBG funds to replace the existing HVAC system in City Hall with a more energy efficient HVAC system.
Amount: $141,000
Project description: This EECBG grant will allow the City of Philippi to install four new high efficiency heat pumps to serve the gymnasium portion of City Hall.
Amount: $28,500
Project description: These funds will be used to replace the current heating units in City Hall with three energy efficient units that will provide an estimated 35% reduction in energy costs.
Amount: $132,525
Project description: This EECBG grant will fund the installation of a new boiler and control systems in the Tucker County Courthouse.
