Region VII Council Passes Corridor H Resolution

Economic Resolution

Whereas all counties, cities, and communities located along the planned routing of Corridor H from Exit 99 at Interstate 79 to the Virginia State line share a common interest in the completion of this limited access four lane highway and

Whereas the positive economic impact that would result from completion of Corridor H would be significant and create new jobs in said communities and

Whereas most of the engineering work and environmental impact studies have been completed along the proposed Corridor H route and

Whereas President Obama has expressed a desire to quickly initiate infrastructure projects that would create construction jobs via a stimulus package for roads and bridges while also creating long term economic impact and

Whereas the completion of Corridor H and its ultimate connection with Interstates 81 and 66 would create a major exodus route from the Washington, DC metro area in case of national emergency, now

Therefore be it resolved that the local government and economic leaders of Region VII Planning & Development Council do hereby urge the fund be appropriated for the approximately 75 miles of Corridor H left to be completed thus promoting both a commercial stimulus and construction package for North Central West Virginia and surrounding areas.

Respectfully executed the 23rd day of March, 2009.
