Braxton County Commission and Flatwoods Canoe Run PSD receives $800,000 Community Development Block Grant

The Braxton County Commission and Flatwoods Canoe Run Public Service District received a $800,000 Community Development Block Grant for the Phase II Exchange Road Water Extension Project.

Town of Davis receives $800,000 Community Development Block Grant

Town of Davis received a $800,000 Community Development Block Grant for their Water System Improvement Project.

This $2.34 million project will replace the existing water system serving the town, which is antiquated and plagued by frequent line breaks. The project will also include the rehabilitation of a water impoundment and water treatment plant updates to serve more than 430 residential households and businesses.

Upshur County Commission and Elkins Road PSD receive $1,216,566 Community Development Block Grant

Upshur County Commission and Elkins Road Public Service District received a $1,216,566 Community Development Block Grant for their Phase III Water System Improvement project.

Gilmer County EDA receives $50,000 Community Development Block Grant Funding

Jeff Campbell, President of Gilmer County EDA and Shane Whitehair of Region VII Planning and Development Council accepts the grant award from Governor Justice's Chief of Staff Mike Hall.

The Gilmer County Commission, in cooperation with the Gilmer County EDA,  received a $50,000 Community Development Block Grant for a broadband development plan. This plan will enable the Commission to pursue a broadband internet network and will also serve as a blueprint to pursue additional federal grants for telecommunication improvements not currently available.

USDA and Capito Award $3 Million Grant to Enhance Broadband Access in Barbour, Randolph, and Upshur Counties

Randolph County Development Authority Awarded ARC Grant

With assistance from Region VII Planning & Development Council, the Randolph County Development Authority in Elkins received a $90,000 grant through Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) to develop a plan focused on the promotion and expansion of the hardwood industry. 

In partnership with the Hardwood Alliance Zone, the plan will strengthen the economy of the nine-county region.

“The hardwood industry is one that is available in all 55 counties; it’s active in all 55 counties,” said WV Hardwood Alliance Zone Vice President Robbie Morris.  “Even though this plan will focus on those nine counties, I believe the state, as a whole, will be able to benefit greatly from the product that is produced from this grant.”

Governor Tomblin Presents Small City Block Grants to Region VII Projects

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin today presented more than $12 million in Small Cities Block Grant funds for 12 critical infrastructure projects to support communities across West Virginia. In total, more than $47 million in other federal, state and local funds will support these projects, serving more than 6,500 residents and approximately 1,000 West Virginia households, improving infrastructure reliability statewide.

Governor Presents Transportation Alternatives Grant to City of Glenville

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin announced grant awards to fund 54 community and infrastructure projects across the state.

The Transportation Alternatives and Recreational Trails Grant programs will provide more than $7 million for a variety of improvements.

“Improvements like those supported by the Transportation Alternatives and Recreational Trails programs are investments that build a better and brighter future of West Virginia,” said Tomblin. “Today’s grant funding will allow us to build and repair infrastructure across the state-making our communities better places to live and work.”

Funding is provided by the Federal Highway Administration. The West Virginia Division of Highways administers the programs.

Randolph County Development Authority Receives Second POWER Award

Coalfield communities in West Virginia and around the country received millions of dollars on Wednesday, as part of the second round of grants under President Barack Obama’s POWER Initiative. The program is designed to help communities that are hard-hit by the decline of the coal industry.
