Youth Council Unveiled at June 23, 2008 Meeting

On June 23, 2008, at the Annual Meeting of Region VII Planning & Development Council, the Youth Council was presented.  In addition to Region VII staff, two college interns are also currently working to bring structure and form to the newest entity in Region VII.
Jacob Osburn, a sophomore at West Virginia Wesleyan College, and Ryann Phillips of Glenville State College have been collaborating for several months to bring together students from previous Youth Summits to fulfill the roles of Youth Summit representatives.  The Youth Summit is intended to provide a voice to the young people in our region...a voice for their economic future in our region.

The final Youth Summit, held in March 2008 at Philip-Barbour High School was the springboard for the newly formed Youth Council.  Several of the students who attended this event, have committed themselves as Youth Council members.
In March, students engaged in a role playing and team building exercise entitled SIMSOC (Simulated Society), facilitated by Dr. Larry G. Peppers, formerly of Clemson University.  Adult council members as well as local educators also participated.
